Jack Hartley (Loveday 2003-2008) and his team mate Tom Hamblin are entering into The Yukon 1000, the worlds longest canoe race in July 2018.
Setting off from Whitehorse in Canada, they will attempt to canoe just over 1000 miles of the Yukon River, following the route taken by the frontiersmen and women during the Gold Rush period.
Crossing the Canada / US border into Alaska, Jack & Tom will navigate the isolated wilderness of the region, avoiding natural portages, poorly braided channels, rapids and the local communities of Grizzly and Black Bears, finishing up in the Arctic Circle.
This is a completely unsupported event, with no 'back up' or safety nets. Paddling for approximately 18 hours a day, Jack & Tom aim to complete the 1000 miles in less than 9 days, administering and sustaining themselves with the little kit they have in their canoe.
All of this is in aid of SCOPE, the UK based disabilities charity, who aim to make this country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else.
Any donations to the cause would be greatly appreciated, and can be made online at
